This two-day symposium engages with the ambiguity of 'alternative' and 'vacancy', two foundational ideas that function as a catalyst for finding alliances and cultivating resonance with others, fostering collective imaginaries across diverse contexts. This public program explores how practitioners situate themselves, the spaces they work with, and how they reappropriate existing language to articulate alternative forms of knowledge and practice.
On Saturday, December 6, will function both as a gathering space for BKKABF Exhibitors and as a kickoff for conversations involving topics of the infrastructure of publishing, the transaction between dominant and hidden narratives, and the creation of situated knowledge that deeply engages with certain communities.. The speakers featured this day will be Dan Yang and Yaya Liu from abC & Dreamer FTY夢廠 (China), Ahmad Makia from HYPERHOUSE (UAE) and Liang-Kai Yu from LImestone Books (Netherlands).
On the other hand, Sunday, December 7, will offer more room to consider the possibilities for publishing as a tool rather than just an act of producing commodity. Whose tools and how are they going to be used for whom? By delving into the alternative provocations and practices of those who work in between the realms of publishing, activism, and art, this day will feature Ida Arunwong from Aan Publishing (Thailand), Shivangi Mariam Raj from The Funambulist (France) and Elaine W. Ho from Display Distribute (Hong Kong).
